There is a romantic description of Milton Country Park on our village website which I cannot top.
"Milton Country Park (1993) which consisted of naturalized gravel pits and pockets of old pastureland once belonging to farms no longer in existence. "
Indeed as a resident of Milton for over 20 years the park has been of huge importance to me and my family, as it is for our whole and wide ranging community. Many people will tell stories of swimming at the pits in their youth and not so youth with great fondness.
Today the pits form park of Milton Country Park which is managed and looked after by Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, run by a hardworking and dedicated team committed to caring for the facility, ensuring the safety of its visitors and making the outdoors accessible in a number of ways. We offer a wide range of activities for adults and children including open water swimming and my own love SUP Yoga.
I'm involved in part of the "Mindful Water" programme. This idea is to facilitate access to open water in a way that encourages and inspires those who are new to sheltered wild water activity.
These sessions start on 18th May 2024 and will run on alternate Saturdays for 2 hours (2:15 to 4:15pm). They will involve an introductory paddleboard session, followed by a yoga session (SUP Yoga) on the paddleboards, finishing with a short introduction to swimming wild.Â
The led session is for both those brand new to these activities who would like a supportive introduction and for those who are not new but will simply enjoy a mindful two hours on the water. You need to be a competent swimmer.Â
